Hovercraft Design Challenge
Friday, January 27, 2012 at 7:30 PM - Sunday, January 29, 2012 at 7:30 PM (EST)
Somerville, United States
Come one, come all to the first of a series of Design Challenges at Artisan's Asylum! In these challenges, competitors will be grouped into small teams and given a goal for a product to build, a kit of parts, and 48 hours to build said product. At the end of 48 hours, the teams will compete in a public unveiling to show off their creations!
Our first Design Challenge will be Remote Control Hovercraft. Teams of 3 to 4 people will be given a kit containing electric motors, multiple propellers, batteries, motor speed controllers, hobby servomotors, and raw material. They will then have 48 hours to create a hovercraft from scratch, culminating in a public race in a gigantic track built in an adjoining warehouse.
Each member of the winning team will get a gift certificate to Artisan's Asylum, and their hovercraft will be displayed publicly in the space.
No experience is necessary. Artisan's Asylum members will be on-hand to provide guidance for foam sculpting and remote control/electronic system wiring, assembly and testing.
Artisan's Asylum will provide all materials. Teams are welcome to keep their finished hovercraft, minus the remote control system and electronic speed controllers.
The event kickoff (which all teams are required to attend) will be on Friday, 1/27/2011, at 7:30 PM. The kit of parts and all rules and documentation will be distributed to each team, and teams will be shown the location where they will be building.
The public race will be on Sunday, 1/29/2011, at 7:30 PM.
